The Symbolism of Statues

Statues and sculptures have been around for a long time and serve many different roles. Some people display them as a way of remembrance, while other people will display sculptures as a way of worship. Some people find comfort and healing in their appearance. Whatever the reason, statues have and continue to play a big role in the lives of people all over the world.

Symbolism Sculptures have symbolic meaning. For example, the Statue of Liberty represents/stands as a symbol of freedom and independence for Americans. For others, pig statues and pig figurines (especially gold ones) symbolize a desire for wealth and an effort to achieve economical gain and prosperity. These representations can and do have many different symbolic meanings.

Worship we read in the Bible and other historical documents that replicas of people and symbols were and are used as a form of worship. There are many religions throughout the world that use statues in their religious worship. For example, Buddhists use the Buddha to help them remember that everything comes from Buddha and by worshiping Buddha they can accomplish and receive those things they really desire. Religious statues are becoming more and more common.

Remembrance Often sculptures are placed on monuments and tombstones in a remembrance of someone who has passed away. One of the most common statues that is used for remembrance (and often for worship too) is a statue of Jesus Christ. Christians tend to display statues of Jesus Christ in churches and within their homes. This serves as a constantly reminder of what Jesus Christ has done for them and the love that He has for them.

Healing Statues are often given to individuals that are ill or have a severe illness. Statues can bring peace and comfort, as well as healing to those that are ill. Religious statues are often given to those who are sick. Many people believe and gain strength and healing from statues (both religious and non-religious statues).

Statues are a great asset to add to any home or building. Some of the most popular statues displayed in homes and public buildings are: Buddha, Virgin Mary, Christus, nativity and Willow Tree. It does not matter where you go. Statues are everywhere and a part of everyday life.

Five Great Religious Statues

Everybody has a room, house, or office space that they need to decorate with something. What could be better to fill that space than a religious statue? These statues can come in different sizes and shapes to fit your needs. Many of them are figures representing Jesus, Mary, or any handful of different saints. Most of the time these statues are inexpensive and can really look nice when placed in the correct setting. With so many options to choose from it can be hard to narrow down which religious statue to choose.

1.) Our Lady of Grace Statue/Virgin Mary Statue - This statue features Mary, the mother of Christ, dressed in white and blue. She is standing with arms open and a peaceful look on her face. This statue is great for anywhere in a home or office because it is very nice looking but is not too much. It won't stand out in a room where you are just looking for that one more piece to add something, but it won't go unnoticed either. This piece is very beautiful and it is surely something that almost anybody could put in their home or office and enjoy.

2.) Saint Joseph Statue - This statue is great because not only does is show Saint Joseph, but it his arms he is holding a young Jesus and flowers. This statue is also really colorful and is overall a very nice piece to look at. You are basically getting two for the price of one with this statue because of the Saint Joseph and Jesus combination. This piece can really work anywhere in an office or home.

3.) Sacred Heart Statue - This statue is also great for anywhere in an office or house. Jesus is depicted in this statue dressed in white and red. You can see the markings on his hands from his crucifixion, and a big red heart on the center of his chest. The heart is surrounded by stunning golden beams of light. This piece obviously holds a lot of meaning and can stand to bring a lot to whatever kind of room you put it in. Everybody could always use a reminder of Christ, and all he did for the world.

4.) Saint Jude Statue - This is a very interesting statue. Saint Jude is depicted in this piece with a flame on his forehead because he was one of Jesus' apostles who received the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. He also has an image of Christ held directly over his heart because of close he was with Jesus. Saint Jude is also holding a carpenter's rule in his left hand in this piece. This piece is very interesting and can be cool to explain to somebody who doesn't understand what all the symbolism in this piece means.

5.) Saint Michael Statue - This statue of Saint Michael the Archangel is very interesting and could definitely find its place in any sort of room. Saint Michael is depicted in this piece with great wings and shining armor on. It shows him after he lead heaven to triumph over Satan when they battled. This elegant piece would be great for any room in the house and would also be great to show to people who do not know of the story of Saint Michael.
